Chinese Sticks by General Grant. Two finely made brass sticks threaded with cords and tassels for the classic comedy effect: pull the cord on one stick and the cord on the other stick gets shorter!  As you repeat this over and over, the audience becomes suspicious- the sticks are attached together at the end and the cord runs all the way through both of them.  Watch their confusion when you completely separate the sticks from eachother and pull the strings again!
