“Halloween’s Harry Houdini Séance” - Fantasma Magic to Host a Houdini Séance
and Mentalism/Magic Show at their NYC Store - Friday, Oct. 31, 2008 - 7PM
Harry Houdini passed through the veil to the next world on Halloween night October 31, 1926. This Halloween, on the anniversary of his death, he may return and New Yorkers have first dibs at the séance table. Paul Draper, a renowned mentalist and magician will conduct the séance at Fantasma Magic on Friday, October 31st at 7pm to kick off Fantasma’s Fabulous Fridays-Magic & More, a series of weekly variety shows including top-notch magic and comedy acts.
In pitch darkness, Paul Draper who recently appeared along with David Copperfield, Lance Burton and Teller as the séance expert on the History Channel’s special “Houdini: Unlocking the Mystery” will slowly summon the spirit of Houdini. Objects will move and levitate from the table, glasses will shatter, spikes will bend and something will reach through the darkness. Draper hopes to reveal the “secret word” that Houdini passed on to his wife b
efore he died proving there is life after death. Draper will use actual relics that once belonged to the legendary escape artist including handcuffs, a straight-jacket, photos and hand-written letters to attract Houdini’s spirit.
In addition, author Larry “Ratso” Sloman will discuss theories from his famed New York Times best seller “Secret Life of Houdini”. The book, co-written with magic theorist William Kalush, was a New York Times best seller and made international news when Houdini’s body was requested for exhumation based on a theory revealed in their book.
General admission tickets are $30 and $75 for those daring enough to join hands at the séance table. Also take a peek at Fantasma’s Houdini exhibit which includes rare one-of- a-kind items that once belonged to the famous magician. "Le Grand David" Creater-Director Honored In The Big Apple
Beverly, Mass. — On Wednesday, October 24, Cesareo Pelaez, the founding director of the Le Grand David Spectacular Magic Company, is being honored for his contributions to the world of conjuring. The fete of Mr. Pelaez will take place at Fantasma Magic (7th Ave.
across from Madison Square Garden and Penn Station).
The president of Fantasma Magic, Roger Dreyer, is planning a unique evening to highlight one of magicdom's most remarkable figures.
Already on display at the Fantasma Magic showroom through October 24 is a unique exhibit of finely crafted magic posters and richly ornamented illusions and artifacts created by the talented artisans of the Le Grand David Spectacular Magic Company.
As Marco the Magi Cesareo Pelaez has led the Le Grand David Spectacular Magic Company throughout its 32 year history. Purchasing the first of their two vintage vaudeville theatres in 1976, Mr. Pelaez premiered "Le Grand David and his own Spectacular Magic Company" on February 20, 1977. His live, 2 1/4-hour stage magic extravaganza is now recognized as "the longest-running, stage magic production/show" by Guinness World Records.
A book signing is also planned in conjunction with the festivities at Fantasma Magic on October 24. Long considered a living legend within the guild of magicians, Cesareo Pelaez, together with David Bull and Avrom Karl Surath, will be autographing copies of Surath's recently published biography of Pelaez, "There Will Be Wonderful Surprises." The 228-page volume traces Pelaez's singular odyssey from his childhood and early years in theatre in his native Cuba through his emigration to America, and to the founding and present day success of the Le Grand David Spectacular Magic Company. "There Will Be Wonderful Surprises" can now be purchased through bookstores locally, nationally, and on Amazon.com.
Now is the time to see a performance of "Le Grand David and his own Spectacular Magic Company," still going strong in its 32nd consecutive season on stage at the Cabot Street Cinema Theatre in Beverly. And beginning Thursday, October 11, Marco's tandem production of classic conjuring, "An Anthology of Stage Magic" begins its autumn season at the Larcom Theatre (13 Wallis Street, Beverly). Curtain time on the 11th is 7:00 p.m.
Fantasma Magic is located at 421 7th Ave. 33rd Street just East of 7th Ave above Sbarros. Entrance on 33rd Street.
See you there!
